RANKINGS

The purpose of ranking each young athlete within their age class is twofold. One is to provide a speed, power and maturation profile that allows the Cheetar Coaches to monitor improvements over time and identify talent. Secondly and more importantly, the young athletes can compete in an environment where there is no external pressure to beat their own scores or the scores of other athletes.

The advantage of testing 10 metre speed and jump height power in an indoor track is that the recordings will never be dictated by weather conditions. This means that their results will be a fair reflection of their training intensity, diet and maturation.

Testing is carried out four times a year and at the end of each test the young athletes are provided with a certificate displaying their results as well as a grading for every improvement that they make between tests.

The grading system starts with registering an initial score for speed and power on one of the testing days.

A Bronze grading is awarded to each athlete that improves in one or both testing disciplines when they next test.

A Silver grading is awarded for any athlete that improves their score in their third block of testing.

Finally a Gold grading is achieved when the young athlete improves in the final block of testing within the year.
